All children visiting the SPINE CLINIC at GBH American hospital are evaluated by Dr Chirayu and his team. In addition to that, school screening programs are carried out by the team once a year. At the village and town level, health workers (doctors, nurses and paramedics) are taught basic clinical tests to evaluate children. All the children from these screening programs are directed to the Spinal Deformity FREE clinic on every Tuesday and Thursday between 12 to 3 PM. After examining the preliminary material from the screening program, a medical team consisting of a spine surgeon, pediatrician, neurologist, radiologist, anesthetist and physiotherapist examine each child personally for the final evaluation.
 

Based on our previous experience, we have found that this method for selecting children for surgery necessitates this double examination system. After the children are selected for surgery, the spine team counsels their family about the nature of surgery, associated risks and complications and the post operative protocols.
