In April 2008 when I met Srishti in my spine clinic, I saw a charming young girl with a beautiful smile but a large hump on her back. I had just returned from Brisbane after a spine fellowship and her parents told me that they were waiting for me. They had traveled 300 kms from kota to consult me. She is suffering from Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). I found out that they did consult some doctors in New Delhi who advised for surgery but cost and a long wait list was the hindrance. Because of the long wait her deformity had progressed from 50 to 70 degrees. I carried out all the necessary medical reports and operated her on 16th April, 2008. She went back home walking with a straight spine in 2 weeks. Then I met Nikita and heard a similar story.
